As part of the work I'm creating for the next art fair, I’ve been working on a group of large abstract paintings, scaling up from some small and medium sized paintings I created last year. Foraged materials such as ash, sand, as well as coffee, marble dust and limestone powder are incorporated, adding a raw, organic depth to the compositions. These elements create a tactile surface, evoking the essence of nature which I feel connects me to the landscape around me which I hope the viewer will feel too.

In ‘Illuminate’ the colour palette is a fusion of predominantly cool blues, soft earth pigments, and dreamy whites, lending the piece an airy yet profound sense of space. The interplay between fluid washes, delicate splatters, sweeping strokes and areas of granular texture enhances the painting’s dynamism, suggesting a balance between chaos and calm.

Golden Hour captures nature’s warmth with earthy textures and rich hues of ochre, sienna, and muted greens, inspired by that golden light that appears just before sunset. With its warm palette, fluid movement and raw textures, I'm hoping the viewer will feel immersed in the feeling of the fleeting beauty of golden hour.

I feel that there’s a meditative quality to this group of paintings—the layered textures and subtle gradations of colour incite a sense of space and invite contemplation.

The three paintings above will all be available at The Affordable Art Fair in Brisbane, 8 - 11 May, 2025, at The Martine Gallery stand.
