PELLUCIDITY
BETWEEN THE WINES II
Admitting the passage of light; transparent or translucent
nearly white, white on white, calm, texture, tranquility, hidden layers...

ARTIST STATEMENT
My goal is to create both intrigue and harmony on the canvas, infusing energy while maintaining a sense of calm. I paint from memory, drawing on inspiration and emotion, with the act of losing myself in the moment being a vital part of my process. It’s about surrendering, trusting my intuition, and responding to what unfolds — allowing for experimentation, play, and feeling as I work.

I enjoy experimenting with unconventional tools, like sticks and feathers, and I love working with my hands, connecting directly to the canvas. As the painting develops, traces of the initial layers often remain, subtly influencing the final piece, adding depth, character, and a sense of curiosity. For me, a painting is complete when I can look at it with both interest and calm, no longer feeling the urge to add to it.
"Senses of the real and the abstracted … inspiring both still life explorations of light and form as well as raw, abstract works, I aim to express the essence rather than the actual; I paint what I feel".
Karin is a mixed media painter, working predominantly with acrylics, also infusing the canvas with natural pigments made from ash, charcoal, rocks and sand. Influenced by her Scandinavian heritage, she leans towards a calming and neutral palette and uses texture, tone and subtle layering to achieve a sense of movement, depth and interest. Although she paints with a lot of energy she likes to evoke a sense of calm in the final output. She is inspired by her travels as well as her every day environment: the beach, ocean, bush and rural landscape.

The main studio is located on the mid-coast of NSW.
